MAGOEBASKLOOF – A truck overturned on the R71 near Samango Lodge on Sunday morning, leading to a chaotic scene as bystanders began looting the vehicle’s cargo.
The truck, which lost control on the slippery road, was seen spilling its load across the highway.
Although the exact contents of the truck remain unclear, several crates were seen being removed by individuals who parked their vehicles alongside the wreckage to take advantage of the situation.
Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene and are working to clear the wreckage and provide assistance to those involved in the incident.
While the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, local reports suggest that heavy rainfall and slippery road conditions may have contributed to the truck losing control.
As of now, the R71 is closed to traffic, with road crews and emergency responders on-site. Authorities have advised motorists to avoid the area and to consider using alternative routes such as the R528 Georges Valley road.
The road closure is expected to last until approximately 12:30 PM while emergency services manage the scene.
Motorists heading towards Magoebaskloof are urged to delay their travel plans or take alternate routes to avoid potential delays and hazards caused by the ongoing accident response.
