TZANEEN-Munghana Lonene FM has announced that their presenter Tiyani Emmanuel Mabasa affectionately known by his fans as Mikiel Mabasa died in a road accident in Levubu in the Vhembe District Municipality on Saturday at around 01h00 in the morning.
Police have confirmed that two motor vehicles collided along the Levubu road next to Harnish farm. Limpopo police spokesperson Brig Hlulani Mashaba said according to information they have at this stage the driver of a VW Polo lost control of a vehicle causing him to collide with a VW Amarok bakkie.
Brig Mashaba says both male drivers were travelling and sustained multiple injuries. The driver of the bakkie identified as Mr L Sauer from Makhado was transported to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
The other driver of the sedan identified as Mr Mabasa who was working as a presenter at Munghana Lonene SABC Radio was declared dead on the scene said Mashaba.
Mabasa was known by listeners for his charismatic voice and engaging personality. He could connect with his listeners making each listener feel like they were part of the conversation. He was also involved in regional initiatives for community development in Collins Chabane’s local municipality.
According to the Station, the details of the memorial service and funeral will be confirmed.
Mashaba said investigations are underway to determine the cause of the accident.
