TZANEEN-Former finance minister Tito Mboweni’s bank account was allegedly hacked by unknown hackers over the weekend.
Mboweni confirmed the incident to the media and further stated that there was no need to involve law enforcement.
It is reported that the hackers managed to withdraw an amount of R19 000 from his Standard bank Check account. Speaking to the media, Mboweni emphasized that his finances were personal and that he had no interest to divulge further details around the crime. Furthermore, he reiterated that his bank was handling the matter.
“It is a banking issue that is being dealt with by the bank. The bank has its own fraud squad and they are dealing with the theft. Let’s leave the matter there”, he said.
Meanwhile, Mboweni took to his Twitter account on Monday to confirm that all the funds have since been recovered by the bank
My bank @StandardBankZA sorted that problem asap, sorted. No money lost. I am good. But these criminals!! Extraordinary!
