SESAKANI VILLAGE-Learners at Tinghitsi Primary School, nestled in Sasekani village, outside Lenyenye , were spotted shovelling the schoolyard on Friday morning, November 03 during lessons.
Upon being questioned by a concerned parent, it emerged that the shovelling was part of the punishment brought against them for not wearing school shirts.
The parent averred that it appears, as if, this is normal procedure at the school because it’s not the first time he sees them, and that he thinks the punishment is uncalled for, particularly, during lessons.
“It saddens me because it’s not the first time I see the learners being out of class busy shovelling. It’s unfair treatment because lessons don’t stop at the account of them being out of class. They are missing out on learning”, he said.
The publication contacted the school principal Maswanganye who could not be reached.
An educator at the school Sarah Zitha was also contacted, but, she refused to comment.
