Three suspects severely beaten and set alight by mob for robbing spaza shop at Ga-Selepe village

POLOKWANE-Three alleged business robbery suspects aged between 30 and 40 were beaten and set alight in a mob related attack at Ga-Selepe in Mecklenburg Policing area, on Tuesday 11 March 2025.

The preliminary investigations revealed that on, Tuesday 11 March 2025 at about 09:10 , the shopkeeper (Victim) was at his shop when, a male pretending to be a customer, pulled out a firearm and demanded money from him,and forced the shopkeeper to his bedroom, while the other two suspects held the landlord hostage at knife point and also assaulted her.

In the process, the shopkeeper was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money.

The robbers allegedly fired two warning shots on their way out.

The community members seemingly mobilized and responded quickly,, gave chase to the suspects.

Three suspects were caught and brought back to their getaway vehicle, where they were set alight inside their vehicle.

The Police in Mecklenburg were notified about the community members who apprehended the alleged suspects  and assaulted them at a local tuck shop in Ga- Selepe next to Selepe clinic.

On their arrival, they found three suspects inside the burning vehicle.

Two suspects managed to come out of the vehicle with severe burned injuries.

The Emergency Medical  personnel services were summoned to the scene, and they declared one suspect dead on arrival, and the other two were taken to the hospital for medical attention.

The Police have are investigating a case of Murder, attempted murder and malicious damage to property

Members of the community are warned  against taking law into their own hands by attacking people suspected of being involved in criminal activities as that can not be tolerated.
