HOEDSPRUIT – Tragedy struck the R531 near Hoedspruit in Maruleng Local municipality on the morning of Tuesday, 29 April 2025, as two separate vehicle crashes claimed three lives and left 63 people injured.
The first accident occurred at approximately 06:30 near Kampersrus village. A Hyundai light delivery vehicle, reportedly transporting workers, overturned after the driver lost control.
One person was declared dead at the scene, and 23 others sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious.
Just over an hour later, at around 08:00 near Marepe Lodge, a second crash took place involving a heavy motor vehicle and a tractor.
According to initial reports, the truck was attempting to overtake when it collided with the tractor. Two people tragically lost their lives, and 40 others were injured. Both vehicles were also transporting workers at the time.
Emergency services responded swiftly to both scenes, and the injured were transported to nearby health facilities for treatment.
Authorities have launched investigations to determine the exact causes of the crashes.
