Three inmates allegedly escaped from police cells in Saselamani

POLOKWANE-The police in Saselamani have launched a massive manhunt for three male suspects who escaped from the police detention facility in the early hours of Thursday, November 2, 2023.

According to the information, the police officers on duty on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at approximately 03:26 am, while conducting their hourly patrol duties, heard an unusual noise coming from the cells.

Upon arrival in the cells, they discovered that three of the inmates had escaped through the roof.

The detainees: Mikateko Ronald Chauke (33) arrested for Burglary, Jimmy Matirele (32) arrested for Burglary and Dumisani Respect Chauke (32) arrested  for two counts of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm have escaped from legal custody.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated.

The police have immediately launched a manhunt for the three male escapees. They are all South African citizens and they are from within the Saselamani Policing area.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has ordered the police to search for the suspects with the aim of recapture them. She further called upon the community to provide information about the suspects’ whereabouts.

“Anyone with information that can assist to rearrest the escapees should contact the Investigating Officer Detective Captain Nkhangweleni Tshilande at 072 728 1504 or SAPS Crime Stop at 08600 10111 alternatively report to the nearest Police Station or can also share it anonymously on MySAPSApp.
