PHALABORWA-A 19-year-old accused, Eugene Mulder appeared in Phalaborwa magistrate court on Monday after he was arrested for the murder of a 59-year-old man.
The Police were called to the scene of an assault GBH at about 01:00 at the Royal Bliss Bar in Phalaborwa in the early hours of Saturday, March 11.
Upon arrival, they discovered the victim lying unconscious on the floor with blood coming out of his mouth.
The victim, identified as Frans Johannes Eloff van Dyk (Oom Hannes), was taken to the hospital where he later in the evening succumbed to the injuries.
According to the Police’s preliminary investigation, Van Dyk was at the venue together with his friend, enjoying their drinks when an argument with a 19-year-old suspect, who was also at the Bar allegedly started the argument and escalated into physical contact wherein the old man fell and started bleeding.
A case docket was opened and a manhunt for the suspect immediately ensued. He was later arrested and charged with Murder.
“Police condemn any form of criminal activities taking place anywhere, including liquor outlets. It remains the responsibility of the owners of liquor outlets to ensure that their respective premises do not become brewing grounds for criminal activities. Police will consequently take the necessary steps against the owner of the outlet where this incident took place.” Said Limpopo Police Spokesperson Motlafela Mojapelo
The accused was remanded in custody until Thursday, March 2023 for further Police investigation.
