TZANEEN- Brian Rabothatha (19) has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Tzaneen Regional court in Tzaneen for the rape of an 82-year-old woman in the Mokwakwaila area.
His sentencing, follows an incident that occurred on 03 August 2019 at Hlohlokwa Village, in Mokwakwaila policing area, where the victim aged 82, was sleeping alone in her house when an unknown man forced opened the door and raped her.
During the incident, the old woman managed to blow her whistle and community members rushed to her house and fortunately, the accused was caught and handed to the police. He was immediately arrested.
A case of rape was opened and assigned to Sergeant Auldah Tinswalo Vuyeka of Tzaneen Family Violence and Child Protection Unit for further investigations
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe , acknowledged members of community at Hlohlokwa Village for alerting the police on time after arresting the accused and the investigating officer was as well applauded for securing a life sentence against him.
