KGAPANE-Matome Godfrey Motolla (38), Peter Tshiodze (36) and Mmbofbeni Steven Shirinda (49) appeared in the Polokwane magistrates court on Monday, September 04.

The trio stand accused of murdering a young couple from Itieleng village, Bolobedu, in October 2020.

It was reported at the time that the then 21-year-old Nius Malatji and his girlfriend Lucia Malapane who was 18 years old at the time were found murdered in their room by Malatji’s employer.

A 12-month-old baby was found by a relative crying for help in a pool of blood next to the bodies of his young parents who were hacked to death with a panga.

The body of Lucia, a grade 12 pupil at Khubudi High School, was allegedly also raped, chopped with a panga on her head and neck, and we found her naked with her upper body sprawled on the bed.

Nius was also attacked with a panga all over the body and sustained several deep wounds on his head

The businessman had reportedly gone to the room to enquire as to why the deceased did not report for duty that morning.

Following the discovery, the community went on a rampage and set alight one of the businesses belonging to the employer alleging he was the one who committed the murders.

Following police investigations, the trio was subsequently arrested on April  2021, after being found in possession of valuables believed to be belonging to the deceased.

They made their first court appearance at Bolobedu Magistrates Court on April 23.

Itieleng ward committee, ANC members and the community at large filled the court chambers in opposition to bail today. The bail application was postponed to 12 February 2024.
