NAMAKGALE- A 29-year-old suspect linked to cases of robbery in Namakgale was arrested and stolen firearm was also recovered during the arrest on Monday, June 20 at about 08:00 at his rented place in Bosveld Location under Namakgale.
Preliminary investigation indicated that the firearm belongs to a Traffic Official and was stolen in Namakgale during April.
The firearm is suspected to have been used in other serious and violent crimes in the Mopani District.
The suspect is currently on bail for several cases of business robbery committed in Namakgale. He will appear in the Namakgale Magistrate’s Court facing charges of unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition, and possession of suspected stolen firearm.
The unfolding Police investigation could lead to other charges preferred against him.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has applauded the continuous support of community members in the fight against crime.
“The arrest of the suspect and confiscation of the firearm is a clear indication that criminals can never have a space to operate under the watchful eyes of the police and the community in this province,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
