MAGOEBASKLOOF-A student hitchhiker was killed and the driver of VW polo and lorry seriously injured on Friday in an accident on the R71 Magoebaskloof near Mountain lodge.
According to eyewitness a speeding blue polo vivo tried to overtake in a curve and hit head on a lorry that was trying to open the way.
One of the two hitchhikers, who were passengers in the polo, died. He is student hitchhiking to visit family for long weekend.
Both drivers were taken to hospital with multiple injuries.
“It happened at around 12H00, the deceased was laying down in front of the truck and the other male injured sitting next to VW Polo car, bleeding so bad and the female one was sitting at the back of the truck looking so scary”
Another motorist said he saw the vehicle speeding on R71 just few minutes before the accident.
“He was driving on a high speed, passed two cars in between at Makanye robot”
Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
