Snow hits some parts of Hoedspruit

HOEDSPRUIT- As residents of Johannesburg and surrounding areas woke up to snowfalls lightly covering rooftops and gardens, some parts of Hoedspruit experienced light snow falling in the Mariepskop area under Maruleng municipality on Monday afternoon.

SA weather predicted a light snowfall and sleet over the Highveld and the escarpment of Mpumalanga areas such as Dullstroom, Belfast, Roossenekal, Mount Anderson and Ermelo will not exceed 6°.

The public and small stock farmers in the Lowveld are advised that the very cold, wet and windy conditions may pose a risk to livestock, vulnerable crops and plants.

Severe frost is expected overnight as well as on Wednesday morning. The public is also warned to keep warm during these cold conditions.

For many locals, the snow was a welcome novelty, excited children made snowballs as they were witnessing snow for the very first time in their lives.
