Several foreign-owned spaza shops suspected of selling expired food closed down in Bolobedu and other areas in Mopani

TZANEEN-More spaza shops suspected to be selling expired food products in Mopani district have been forced to close their doors by the police.

The Police in Mopani raided several shops in their operation “shanela” to ensure healthy food at local shops on Friday, November 11.

The operation started in Tzaneen CBD, Lenyenye, NkowaNkowa, Kubjana Village, Motupa, Dan Village, Tickeyline, and Mine View.

The shops such as Molewa shop, Maake shop and Sali all at Ga Kubjana in Bolobedu South were closed due to non-compliance and expired goods.

According to the police, the focus was to monitor local shops to ensure safe food on the shelves and those who were found in their shops with expired or fake food products were charged by the police.

Local shops that were found not complying were closed.

Meanwhile, Mopani District Municipality’s MMC for community services Cllr. Dikeledi Mmetle led a food inspection blitz in Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality today.

It targeted spaza shops in Namakgale, Mashishimale, and Matiko-Xikaya.
