KGAPANE-Tourism continues to be one of the hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, Thabiso Sekhula (35), from Senwamokgope village, in Sekgosese, has taken measures to attract households, tourists and businesses alike to reignite the sector.

Sekhula holds a degree in Journalism with a major in Communication and media law from Tshwane University of Technology (TUT).

In conversation with Tzaneen voice, Sekhula spoke of how she shifted gears and left the hustle and bustle of Gauteng, to reignite tourism in Limpopo through her media company @1000LimpopoSecrets.

“I worked in Gauteng for fifteen years until my husband and I decided to move back home. Friends questioned why we uprooted our lives to settle in rural Limpopo. Hence, we created social media pages to share attractions in the province to show the outside world the diversity of our cultures and heritage” she said.

The ambitious young woman admits she and her partner took the road less travelled.

“Not many people would take the decision we took but it was worthwhile. People must visit the Makgabeng plateau in Bochum where the mountains are carved into breathtaking shapes. It is where the San, Khoi and Bapedi tribes have left their artworks. It is an absolute gem and one of the reasons why @1000LimpopoSecrets was created”, Sekhula added.

“So we wanted to show off the real, authentic life and sense of Limpopo”

She further said that Mopani also stands out and that it should be on everyone’s bucket list because of its attractions such as baobab trees, waterfalls, caves, heritage sites like Modjadji cycad and different cultures of Bapedi, Venda and Tsonga tribes.

In honour of women’s Month, Sekhula acknowledged the amazing women in her life and work whom she says are her biggest cheerleaders, mentors and friends.
