VAAL RIVER – On Tuesday, the search for missing Willem Kruger (29), came to an end when his bakkie, with his body in it, was found in the Vaal River.
Bushveld Crime Investigations leading the search for missing Kruger confirmed that his Toyota Hilux was found by police divers in the Vaal River.
He was last seen on 12 November at a function at Henbase Lodge which is situated between Morgenzon and Amersfoort in Mpumalanga. When reports came in that he was missing the CCTV footage was viewed at Henbase Lodge.
It shows where he entered the lodge but no footage can be seen where he left, according to the information.
Even though that footage is there the sniper cameras on the roads were also checked.
It is believed that he would have travelled from Morgenzon to Bethal and then to Middelburg to reach his destination.
A search into the Vaal River, which flows through the resort immediately began.
Drones and air support were also called in.
The Mpumalanga Inland Water Police Inland Unit, Lydenburg K9 as well as private investigators assisted.
After a lot of rain, the search was difficult as the stream was in flood and all that water was on its way to Grootdraaidam which was at one stage over 112% to capacity.
Mike Bolhuis, the private investigator, confirmed on Facebook that the bakkie, with Willem still in the bakkie, was found by the police divers at 10:45.
