Ga-SEKGOPO-The search for 78-year-old John Matome Malebati from the North West Province, Rustenburg, has tragically ended with the discovery of his death.

Malebati, who was last seen on February 5, 2025, at the Polokwane Taxi Rank, had been intending to travel to Rustenburg but never reached his destination.

Malebati was reported missing after he failed to arrive in Rustenburg, where his family was expecting him.

He had been attending a funeral in the area of Ga-Sekgopo, but after leaving the area, he was last seen heading towards the Polokwane Taxi Rank. His family’s attempts to contact him proved unsuccessful, and his absence was increasingly alarming.

3 weeks days later, on February 26, 2025, reports surfaced that Malebati had been involved in a tragic accident. It was revealed that he had been struck by a car while traveling in Polokwane, an incident that led to his admission to the provincial hospital. Despite the medical team’s best efforts, Malebati’s injuries were severe, and he passed away on February 22, 2025.

The family of the late Malebati expressed their sorrow and grief over the unexpected tragedy. While the search initially raised hopes that he would be found alive, the family now faces the heartbreaking reality of his death.

Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident and are working to identify the driver responsible for hitting Malebati.
