POLOKWANE- Nerissa Mokgadi Phontshi(37) was found guilty and sentenced for theft by the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court today, 20 July 2023.
Between 17 January and 12 February 2014, the accused was stationed at SAPS- Seshego as a Financial Administration Clerk. The accused was responsible for safekeeping the state money in the safe. During her tenure as the safe keeper of the state money, R3000 was stolen from the safe.
The station management opened a case of theft and transferred it to the Polokwane Based Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation.
Through the Hawks meticulous investigation, it was revealed that the accused was the one who stole the money as she was the only person in possession of the safe keys when it was stolen.
In 2015, the accused was served with the summons to appear in court. The accused has been appearing in court from outside as she was never detained until she was found guilty and sentenced to 12 months imprisonment wholly suspended for 5 years on condition that she does not commit a similar offense during the period of suspension.
The Provincial Head of the Hawks in Limpopo Province, Major General Gopz Govender has commended the investigation team for investigating the case without fear, favour or prejudice.
