KANYAMAZANE – A body believed to be that of a traditional healer (sangoma) was recovered from the Crocodile River in KaNyamazane, Mpumalanga, earlier today.

According to police reports, they received a call about a possible drowning near the MRTT area of the Crocodile River at approximately 14:00 on 10 April 2025. All relevant stakeholders, including the police diving unit, were dispatched to the scene.

It is alleged that two men—a prophet and a traditional healer—were at the river praying and performing rituals. On the day of the incident, the prophet reportedly noticed that the traditional healer had suddenly disappeared. He called out for him and searched the surrounding area but to no avail.

The prophet then gathered their belongings and went to the traditional healer’s home to inform his family. The incident was reported to the police by a complainant who accompanied the healer’s wife.

The police diving unit conducted a search operation from 10 April until today, 13 April 2025. At around 12:00, the body was finally retrieved from the river and was declared dead by emergency medical services.
