SANDF soldier Shot Dead on His Way to Work in Lulekani, Phalaborwa

PHALABORWA – Police in Lulekani have launched a manhunt following the brutal murder of a 54-year-old South African National Defence Force (SANDF) Corporal, who was gunned down in the early hours of Thursday, 29 May 2025, in Kurhula Section, within the Lulekani policing precinct.

According to police reports, officers received a call about a man found lying on the street with multiple gunshot wounds.

Upon arrival at the scene, they discovered the victim unconscious. Emergency medical personnel were called in and sadly declared the man dead on the scene.

It is alleged that the victim was en route to work when he was ambushed and shot multiple times. Authorities recovered five empty cartridges at the scene.

Strangely, the victim’s personal belongings, including his cellphone, were found still in his possession, ruling out robbery as an immediate motive. The reason behind the attack remains unclear at this stage, and police are continuing their investigations.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending official notification of his next of kin.

Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist in bringing those responsible to justice.
