SANDF member among those arrested for attacking police van and freeing six awaiting trial prisoners

LOUIS TRICHARDT: Two suspects have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the attack of police officials who were transporting six awaiting prisoners from the Makhado Correctional Centre to Senwabarwana and freeing all of them on Monday.

The suspects, 38-year-old Kedibone Albert Langa who is a member of the South African National Defence Force and 28-year-old Thabani Sibanda, a Zimbabwean national, have since appeared in the Louis Trichardt Magistrate’s Court and their case postponed to 22 March 2023.

Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo says the suspects were arrested in Musina and the two motor vehicles that they used in committing the crime, were also found and confiscated.

Mojapelo says the suspects are facing various charges ranging from attempted murder, aiding and abetting, conspiracy to commit crime and possession of unlawful firearms and ammunition, defeating the ends of justice, and malicious property damage.

The six escapees are still at large.
