Atarah “Tara” Katzeff, a 22-year-old from Cape Town, was found murdered in her room at Warriors Academy in Magoebaskloof on 28 July, 2024.

Initially, no foul play was suspected as her room was undisturbed and nothing appeared to have been stolen. However, it was later determined that she had been strangled.

Police, alongside a private investigator, are working diligently to identify and apprehend the perpetrator.

A case of murder has been opened, but no arrests have been made at this time.

Tara had been a valued member of the Warriors Academy community for three years. She began her journey with the academy through their gap year program, where she discovered her passion for the outdoors and adventure.

She later joined the Multi-Activity Adventure Instructor (MAI) program, where she excelled. According to the Academy, Tara demonstrated outstanding people skills, a positive attitude, and an unwavering passion for nature and the outdoors.

Recognizing these strengths, she was appointed as a junior facilitator at the beginning of the year. In this role, she supported the gap year program, mentored new MAI participants, and enthusiastically contributed wherever needed.

On the Warriors Academy website, Tara was listed as being certified in abseil supervision, wilderness first aid, survival facilitation, mountain bike guiding, advanced open water diving, and rescue scuba diving, among other qualifications.

Tara was laid to rest at the Pinelands Jewish Cemetery in Cape Town.

A substantial reward is being offered for any information that leads to the successful arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Tara’s death.
