PHALABORWA – Limpopo department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs says work to re-build two damaged RDP houses in ward 19 in Namakgale, outside Phalaborwa, has started.
This follows allegations by a local platform called Speak Out Phalaborwa, that have since been dismissed by the Ba-Phalaborwa Local Municipality, claiming that the municipality has built low quality RDP houses that were damaged by the wind.
CoGHSTA provincial spokesperson Motupa Selomo says the department became aware of the poor workmanship in March and immediately instructed the contractor to demolish and re-build the houses, but the project was halted by the national lockdown.
He says MEC Basikopo Makamu has since reprimanded the contractor and has given him strict instructions to complete the rebuilding of the houses as a matter of urgency.
