GA-MOGOBOYA – After a weekend of continuous rainfall, Ramodike Dam, also known as Malete Dam, at Tlhabine in the rural Greater Tzaneen area, has reached overflowing levels.

The dam’s water levels reached 99.6% of its capacity by Saturday, February 11, and began spilling over on Sunday, prompting concerns for residents living near the Lehlabine River.

The ongoing heavy rains have raised water levels in the area, and according to the South African Weather Service, there are no immediate signs of the adverse weather conditions subsiding.

The dam’s overflow is a critical event for the surrounding communities, as it poses a risk of flooding, particularly in low-lying areas near the riverbanks.

Authorities are urging people residing near the river to exercise extreme caution during storms and heavy rainfall. Flash floods can develop quickly, and residents are advised to closely monitor the water levels.

In case of rising waters, they should evacuate the area immediately and seek higher ground to avoid the dangers of sudden floods.

Local authorities are on high alert and continue to monitor the situation closely.

As the weather conditions persist, it remains essential for community members to stay informed and adhere to safety guidelines to protect themselves and their property.
