LEBOWAKGOMO: Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba recently announced an ambitious programme to eliminate load reduction in Nkowankowa, part of the Greater Tzaneen Municipality, which has faced regular power blackouts due to illegal electricity connections.

This initiative, revealed during the State of the Province address at the Limpopo Legislative Chamber, aims to alleviate the ongoing power crisis in the area.

Ramathuba emphasized that the programme will focus on public awareness, expanding Free Basic Electricity coverage, and implementing smart meters and advanced metering infrastructure.

These interventions will tackle the root causes of power interruptions, reduce the strain on indigent households, and promote responsible energy usage.

“Together, these efforts will restore business confidence, improve municipal revenue management, curb illegal connections, and enhance service delivery,” she said.

In a major step towards addressing the energy challenges in the region, Neuromorphogenics Africa (Pty) Ltd, in collaboration with local entrepreneur Mukhufi Agro-Processing and Essential Oil, has committed to a significant R9.8 billion investment in the Mopani Solar Project.

This project, which will integrate both solar and wind power, is set to contribute significantly to the region’s energy needs.

Progress on the Mopani Solar Project is already underway, with solar and wind ventures being initiated in areas like Fetakgomo-Tubatse, promising sustainable energy solutions for growing industries in the region.
