ZANGOMA : The people of Zanghoma, Shipungu, and Mariveni will finally get the road linking them upgraded.

This was announced by the Mayor of the Greater Tzaneen Municipality, Councillor Gerson Molapisane, during a groundbreaking ceremony held at Uhuru Clinic today on Thursday.

The R57 million project will see the 6km Mariveni to Zanghoma road upgraded from gravel to interlocked brick paving.

The 24-month project will employ 117 people as labourers, and local SMMEs will also benefit from subcontracted work.

Tango’s Consultants has been appointed as the consulting engineers, and LEBP Construction and Projects has been appointed as the contractor.

In 2015 the Greater Tzaneen Municipality launched a project to upgrade the Rita to Mariveni from gravel to tar.

A development that would have changed the lives of thousands of people residing along the route.

The project was, however, halted after some sections of the community of Zanghoma disputed some aspects of the project.

The project couldn’t continue even after the Municipality scored a court victory preventing interference in the project by the protestors.
