R17 Millions Leretjeni Sports Ground refurbishment project on track after some logistical delays

LERETJENI-The Leretjeni sports ground is a popular recreational facility for residents in ward 11 and surrounding areas in the Relela cluster.

The R17 Million upgrade includes the installation of a new pitch (grass), refurbished seating areas, improved lighting, and upgraded changing rooms and ablution.

It will be used for various sporting activities such as soccer, rugby, and athletics. However, over the years, the sports ground has started to deteriorate, affecting the quality of games and the safety of players.

According to GTM the refurbishment project aims to address these issues and provide a state-of-the-art sports facility for the community.

The new turf will provide a consistent playing surface and reduce the risk of injuries. The seating areas will accommodate more spectators, creating a better atmosphere for both players and fans.

The improved lighting will allow for evening games and increase the usability of the sports ground.

“The project has faced some delays due to unforeseen challenges, such as adverse weather conditions and supply chain issues. However, the project team (Lebaka Construction and Kago Consulting) are working diligently to ensure that the refurbishment is completed within the extended timeline”

They contractors also implemented strict safety protocols to protect workers and visiting stakeholders during construction.

Local sports clubs and organizations are eagerly awaiting the completion of the project. They believe that the upgraded sports ground will attract more players and spectators, boosting the local sports scene and providing a platform for aspiring athletes. The Leretjeni sports ground will become a hub for sports development and community engagement in public meetings, community mass programs and recreational festivals.
