BURGERSFORT: In a controversial turn of events, a self-proclaimed prophet in Bothashoek, Burgersfort, has called on the local community to raise R400,000 in exchange for his assistance in locating a missing 15-year-old girl, Tetelo Malatji.
Tetelo has been missing since July 24th, leaving the community in a state of distress and uncertainty.
During a recent community gathering, the prophet urged residents to come together and collect the substantial sum.
Reports indicate that community members have been asked to contribute R100 per household, while local business owners are expected to donate R500 each to meet the prophet’s demands.

The prophet’s request has sparked widespread debate and concern within the community, especially given the recent tragic discovery of the remains of another missing girl, 10-year-old Kgomotso Matenche.
Kgomotso’s body was found in a demolished pit toilet in Ga Riba just two weeks ago, a discovery that has heightened the community’s anxiety and sense of urgency in addressing cases of missing children.
Amid the controversy, the Tubatse police in Sekhukhune District have intensified their search efforts for Tetelo. She was last seen wearing sky-blue shorts, a blue jersey, and blue sandals.
The investigating officer, Lieutenant Colonel David Twala, has urged anyone with information regarding Tetelo’s whereabouts to come forward. Community members can reach out to the investigation team at 071 210 6628, or share tips anonymously through Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or the MySAPS App.
The prophet’s demand for R400,000 has raised ethical questions about exploiting a community in crisis, dividing opinions on whether to pursue his assistance or explore other avenues in the search for the missing girl.
As the community grapples with this dilemma, the focus remains on finding Tetelo and ensuring her safe return.
