BUSHBUCKRIDGE-A 42-year-old police officer stationed at the Bushbuckridge Police Station, was arrested by her colleagues.

Sergeant Nyiko Nyathi, who is now in custody, is accused of orchestrating the brutal murders of her husband, Lawrence Alba Mashego, and another woman, Victoria Lebyane.

The murder of Mashego, aged 44, was a chilling crime that began in February of the previous year. According to police reports, Mashego was abducted from his home in Boikutsong Trust, Bushbuckridge, by a group of six armed men.

The assailants stole Mashego’s Toyota Quantum and Ford Escort, using the vehicles to transport him to a woman named Victoria Lebyane.

It is believed that Lebyane was Mashego’s girlfriend, and she was in possession of his bank cards at the time.

The armed group then reportedly robbed Lebyane of 4,000 rand in cash, in addition to the bank cards belonging to Mashego. Tragically, after robbing her, the criminals shot and killed Victoria Lebyane. The brutality of the crime left the community in shock and fear.

Following the crime, four suspects were arrested, and one of them pleaded guilty to their

involvement.

However, a thorough investigation carried out by the police revealed that the true mastermind behind the murders was none other than Sergeant Nyiko Nyathi, the estranged wife of the late Mashego. Authorities suggest that Nyathi may have been motivated by a complex mixture of personal and financial factors.

Nyathi made her first appearance in court today, where she faced charges related to the killings of her husband and Lebyane. She has been remanded in custody and is set to return to court on Wednesday for a bail application.
