THOHOYANDOU-Police in Thohoyandou have rescued a 39-year-old man from a mob justice attack on June 26, in Manamani village.
The police received a report of a mob assaulting a suspect in the village. The Public Order Policing (POPS) unit responded quickly, tackling the mob and rescuing the man.
The suspect was involved in an armed robbery incident, where a bakery truck was hijacked at gunpoint. The driver managed to fight the suspects while shouting for help.
The community came to his rescue, and one suspect was caught, while the other managed to escape. The police recovered an unlicensed firearm and seven pieces of ammunition.
The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, urged the community not to take the law into their hands and advised citizen arrest.
A manhunt is underway for the other unknown suspect, and anyone with information can contact Branch Commander Colonel Nemavhola at 0825657345, crime stop number 0860010111, or the nearest police station or MySAPSApp.
The suspect will appear before the Thohoyandou Magistrate Court soon, facing charges of robbery with a firearm and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
