Police release identity of the man knocked down by vehicle in Tzaneen town

TZANEEN: Tzaneen police have released the identity of the man that was knocked down by a vehicle on Peace Street in Tzaneen on Tuesday morning.

The man was walking on the pavement when he was hit by a vehicle and crashed into a wall at around 07: 30.

According to an eye witness the driver of the Isuzu double cab bakkie had a medical emergency and lost control of the vehicle while driving. He collided with charcoal Volvo sedan, which was parked, and the pedestrians.

Unfortunately, one pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was declared dead on scene.

The driver and other pedestrian were transported to hospital for further care by TEMS911 Paramedic

The deceased was identified as a 37-year-old Congolese national, Rodrigue Kabondo working in Tzaneen for an UNHCR organization that helps underprivileged children and families.

Tzaneen Police Communication Officer Sergeant Maurice Nkhwashu confirmed that the police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
