LULEKANI-The members of the Provincial Vispol Task team were busy with the operation on Wednesday, 13 December 2023 when they received information about a business robbery that took place at a Supermarket in Lulekani at about 21:40, in which a foreign National owner was also kidnapped by the armed suspects.
Three armed suspects allegedly robbed the store of an undisclosed amount of vouchers and thereafter forced the victim into his sedan vehicle and drove with him to a disclosed location.
The suspects later called the victim’s relatives and demanded a R50 000-00 ransom for his release.
The team promptly reacted and launched an operation for the suspects. The victim’s vehicle was found abandoned in Namakgale shortly after the incident. The victim was eventually released unharmed after the suspects left him on the road. Police have opened cases of business robbery, kidnapping and carjacking.
