POLOKWANE-Police in Musina are urgently searching for Mr. Dakalo Nemangwele, 34, in connection with the murder of his wife.
Investigators believe that Nemangwele may be able to provide crucial information regarding the tragic incident, and they have reason to believe he crossed into Zimbabwe through the Beitbridge Port of Entry.
The investigation began on 20 January 2025, when Musina police received a tip from a tracking company about a white Ford Ranger with Limpopo registration found at a residence in Campbell.
The vehicle had been reported missing along with its owner, a man from Gauteng, under Moroka SAPS. The man, along with his wife, was last seen on 17 January 2025, when they reportedly disappeared under suspicious circumstances.
When authorities arrived at the residence in Campbell, they discovered that the vehicle had been parked there with permission from its owner.
The individual who was keeping the vehicle explained that the owner had borrowed a significant sum of money and stated his intention to cross into Zimbabwe seeking spiritual assistance due to problems at his workplace.
The vehicle had been dropped off by the missing man and another male companion at around 10:00 PM on the evening of 17 January 2025.
Upon further investigation, police found bloodstains inside the vehicle, as well as multiple pieces of ammunition and firearms-related items, including two empty rifle cartridges, three empty 9mm pistol cartridges, one fragment of 9mm ammunition, six live 9mm rounds, and two black 9mm pistol magazines—one containing 15 rounds and the other empty. A pair of black gloves was also found inside the vehicle.
As the investigation progressed, officers were led to a 24-year-old suspect who was believed to have been involved in the incident. This suspect was arrested in the early hours of 22 January 2025 during an intelligence-driven operation conducted by Musina Police and the Vala Umgodi MAJOC Roving Team at his residence in the Tshamutumbu policing area.
The suspect was found in possession of two firearms, including a hunting rifle with ammunition.
The wife of the vehicle’s owner, a 29-year-old woman originally from Mutale in the Vhembe District, was reported missing along with her husband. Tragically, on 22 January 2025, the woman’s body was discovered in the bushes along the N1 in Kromdraai, Free State. She had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the husband, who had been traveling with her, had passed through the Verkeerdeveli Toll Gate alone on 17 January 2025 in the same vehicle. The woman’s body was discovered at a turn-off in Kromdraai, suggesting that her husband had traveled further on without her.
Limpopo Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, condemned the senseless shooting, describing it as a tragic loss of life. “This is a heart-wrenching event that has left a family shattered,” she said. “We are committed to bringing those responsible for this terrible crime to justice.”
Police are urging anyone with information that could assist in locating Mr. Dakalo Nemangwele or furthering the investigation to come forward.
