PHALABORWA – The Police in Phalaborwa have arrested three (03) more suspects, including the Chairperson of the Business Community Forum (BCF),which is an unemployment forum of Phalaborwa, in connection with violent protests that erupted last month at the local Mine in the area in which properties were torched and others vandalised.
The arrest of the three brings the total number of suspects arrested to fourteen (14). Eleven (11) suspects were arrested on Friday night. 26 February 2021 and have already appeared in Phalaborwa magistrate court on 01 March 2021 on charges of trespass, arson, malicious damage to property, and public violence.
The three suspects, aged 34, 36(Chairperson), and 44, will face similar charges and are expected to appear in Phalaborwa magistrate court on Monday 08 March 2021.
The Provincial Commissioner of in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has commended the members for making these additional arrests and has urged them to be relentless in pursuit of all those who took part in violence.
The other eleven suspects will again appear in Phalaborwa magistrate court on Tuesday 09 March 2021. They are still in custody.
