PHALABORWA – Phalaborwa United Football Club has officially confirmed the departure of its head coach, Tefu Mashamaite, following the team’s early exit from the 2025/26 Nedbank Cup.
The announcement comes after Phalaborwa United suffered a 4-3 loss on penalties to Nkowankowa Continental FC, following a tightly contested match that ended in a draw during regulation time.
In a statement, the club revealed that the decision was made as part of an internal review of the team’s performance and overall direction, emphasizing that a change in leadership was necessary to help the team move forward.
“Phalaborwa United FC thanks Coach Mashamaite for his efforts and contributions during his time with the club and wishes him well in his future endeavors,” read part of the official statement.
This marks the second coaching change within a short space of time for Phalaborwa United. Mashamaite took over shortly after the dismissal of former head coach Timmy “The Gaffer” Mashele and Reason Chiloane in September , who was abruptly relieved of his duties earlier in the season.
Preparations are already underway to appoint a new head coach ahead of the upcoming fixtures, with an official announcement expected soon.
