PHALABORWA-The secretary of concerned community members was released on R500 bail on Monday, August 21 at Namakgale Magistrate Court.
Thuso Shai and two other members of the Phalaborwa concerned community were arrested following a protest at Maseke village during the morning on Thursday, August 17 just before the Mayoral Imbizo of Ba-Phalaborwa municipality.
Police were called and they were arrested on Friday for public violence.
The supporters came in numbers and were seen chanting outside the Magistrate Court demanding the release of the accused.
Phalaborwa’s concerned community was in the news recently when they submitted a memorandum of their grievances about service delivery to Limpopo MEC for COGHSTA Basikop Makamu representatives at Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality head office.
Upon realising that the response by MEC Makamu was not satisfactory they proceeded to Luthuli House where they submitted a Memorandum of their concerns to ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula. They also proceeded to submit another letter to the office of President Cyril Ramaphosa at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.
They received letters of acknowledgement in all those offices. Amongst their concern is that the municipal budget is not being used. A lot of service delivery projects that are supposed to be done by the municipality are being done by Palabora Mining Company through a social labour plan.
Their case has been postponed to September 19.
