NKOWANKOWA-Hundrends of Pepper International workers downed tools over unpaid bonuses and unfair labour practices.
Workers went on a strike this morning throwing bins that were carrying peppers on the floor at the company’s factory in Nkowankowa, they are claiming that they are denied recognition and organisational rights.
According to one employee who could not say her name, says they were protesting because management failed to fulfil their promises.
“I worked 10 days but got paid R1400 even though I was promised that if we filled three bins we would get bonuses”
“We also noticed that night shift staff get bonuses while day shift don’t get it” she continued
It is alleged that the factory came to a standstill after management showed no interest in resolving the problems, the workers went on a rampage, closing down the factory and vandalizing some of the equipment.
“If things remain like this we are going to embark on this strike until the company pays our bonuses because this company continue dividing workers.
Some Workers were paid their bonuses. The rest of us are given excuses. How are we supposed to feed our families?” said another staff member
An effort to contact management was unsuccessful.
