Johannesburg – Orlando Pirates Football Club has confirmed that Head Coach José Riveiro will be stepping down at the end of the current season. The Spanish coach, whose contract is set to expire, has informed management of his decision not to renew his agreement beyond its term.

In an official statement, the club expressed appreciation for Riveiro’s professionalism and commitment, noting that his timely announcement allows for business as usual for the remainder of the season while giving the club time to prepare for the future. The club also emphasized that they would reserve detailed tributes for a more appropriate time.

Club Chairman Dr. Irvin Khoza expressed regret at Riveiro’s departure, acknowledging the coach’s significant contributions. “While we would have liked José to extend his stay with us, we fully respect his decision,” Khoza said. “The joy that José and his support staff have brought to this Club will never be forgotten.”

The club’s immediate priorities are two-fold: first, to honor Riveiro’s contributions at the right time, and second, to begin the search for a suitable replacement for the 2025/26 season.

With the club still engaged in three crucial competitions, further updates on the matter will be provided after the season ends. Orlando Pirates have called on supporters to continue backing the coach and his team in the remaining months of the campaign.
