One of the Women killed in Makhado shootout was the owner of the mansion used as a “safe house” by the robbers to orchestrate crime in the area

MAKHADO: Two of the 18 people killed during a shoot-out with police yesterday in Makhado in the Vhembe District have been identified by their families.

The identified are the women who were part and parcel of the robbers who were killed.

The first woman has been identified as the owner of the mansion where the shooting took place.

Police Commissioner General Fanie Masemola confirmed that the suspects met in the mansion in Makhado to plan for a cash-in-transit heist when they were ambushed by the police.

The robbers then shot the police, wounding one in the leg, however, the police retaliated, killing sixteen men and two women.

The second woman, who is from Tshikota village was also identified by her family in a government morgue in Thohoyandou.

The names of the deceased will be released in due course.
