LADYSMITH – Today marks a fresh start for 30-year-old Ntando Mhlongo, who has finally found relief after six years of suffering from a rare and debilitating condition that left him with swollen testicles.

This morning, Mhlongo, who underwent surgery at Laverna Private Hospital in Ladysmith, expressed profound gratitude for his renewed hope and future.

Mhlongo’s journey to healing was not easy. After years of pain and public advocacy, his case gained widespread attention, including coverage on UKhozi FM and various other media outlets. Thanks to the efforts of Dr. Nkosi, the surgeon who handled his complex case, the procedure was successful, and Mhlongo’s health prospects are bright. Doctors have confirmed that he will experience no impact on normal functions, such as urination and erectile health, ensuring a complete return to everyday life.

Visiting Mhlongo in the hospital, the First Lady of UThukela District Municipality, Cllr. SV Shabalala, accompanied by Cllr. NW Mchunu, extended support and encouragement. Through the municipality’s Special Programmes Unit, the First Lady praised Mhlongo’s resilience and acknowledged the vital role that the community and media played in bringing his condition to light.

Mhlongo spoke candidly about the life-changing support he received: “Dr. Nkosi is an angel from heaven. Right now, I have regained my confidence and will be able to be a good parent, support my son, and pursue my dreams of becoming a farmer. When I woke up, I couldn’t believe that this burden had been lifted. I am incredibly grateful for the love people have shown me.”

The dedication of Laverna Private Hospital and the intervention by UThukela District Municipality have provided Mhlongo with a new outlook on life. The community’s support has not only helped him physically but also restored his confidence and spirit. Mhlongo’s recovery serves as a reminder of the impact compassionate healthcare and community solidarity can have on an individual’s life.
