GIYANI – Mcdonald Nsovo Khoza (24) from Nkowankowa Section A has been remanded in custody following his appearance in the Giyani Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 02 May 2025, on charges of stock theft.

His arrest is linked to an incident that occurred on the night of Wednesday, 30 April 2025, in Mphagani Village.

According to police reports, a 77-year-old farmer secured his seven goats in a kraal before going to bed. The following morning, he discovered five goats missing and immediately alerted local authorities.

A swift police response led to the spotting of a grey NP 200 bakkie suspected of transporting the stolen goats. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver sped off, prompting a high-speed chase. The bakkie was eventually stopped, and while three suspects fled on foot, the 24-year-old driver was arrested at the scene.

Police say Khoza failed to provide a credible explanation for the goats in his possession. The livestock, valued at approximately R7,900, was recovered and returned to the rightful owner.

Khoza remains in police custody. His case has been postponed to 13 May 2025 for a formal bail hearing and further investigation.

Police efforts to track down the remaining suspects are ongoing.
