Nkhwashu gets the nod at Limpopo Under 18 Hockey Team

NKONWANKOWA – Khanyi Nkhwashu has been selected as a member of the under 18 Limpopo Hockey team.

The competition, known as the IPT Tournament will be held from the 4th to the 8th of July 2022.

The 17-year-old star from Nkonwankowa township in Greater Tzaneen to this publication of how happy she was to have made the cut.

Khanyi developed interest and passion for hockey when she was eight years old, inspired by Tannis Elaba Goosen.

She began playing hockey at the age of eight at Dr Annecke Primary School. It became a hobby from there. She began participating in school with zeal after being inspired by her coaches.

“I chose to play hockey because I realized it’s something I enjoy doing; it just makes me happy, and the passion I have for it is contagious,” she said.

My primary teacher, who also plays hockey, was my role model because she advised me on what to do and what not to do during games,” Khanyi explained.

She has been selected as a member of the under 18 Limpopo hockey team for the under 18 Regional Tournament known as the IPT Tournament, which will be held from July 4th to July 8th. The tournament will be held at Merensky High School.

The estimate for the tour is R4 300 per player, which includes the tour accommodation, meals, a SASHOC levy and extras. The kit is 2 880 – this is for the clothes as well as a stick bag. The total of the tour cost is R7 180 per player.

“It would be highly appreciated if I can get a sponsor to contribute to my tour fees in any way possible” she pleaded

“I am actually happy to have been selected for the u18/b Limpopo hockey team because there was a lot of pressure during the selections this year and I never thought I would’ve made it,” Khanyi says.

Khanyi stated that she aspires to be a good hockey player. She wants to play hockey until she appears on television just to make her mother, who has supported her since the beginning, proud.
