WAYENI VILLAGE- Nine undocumented foreign nationals, and one illegal miner were arrested and an assortment of equipment confiscated on Monday, 24 March 2025 during an operation conducted by Vala Umgodi at the five districts of the province.
Police Spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba confirmed that a 36-year-old male suspect was arrested for illegal mining of sand at Wayeni village, Ritavi River in the Waterval policing area.
Acting on the information received, they arrested him for failing to produce a valid mining permit.
During the arrests, police confiscated 3 shovels,1pickaxe and a white Nissan truck.
Another white tipper truck was found abandoned at a separate location in Tshimhufe Mavhulani village in the Vuwani policing area.
The suspects will appear before the local Magistrate’s court soon.
Police investigations are continuing.
