JOHANNESBURG – Rising radio talent Ndivho Makhwanya, hailing from Manini near Thohoyandou in the Vhembe District, has made her mark in the world of South African radio by winning the Bright Star Inductees category at the prestigious Telkom Radio Awards.
The awards ceremony, which took place on Saturday, evening November 30, at the Sandton Convention Centre, celebrated the country’s top radio personalities and the unsung heroes working behind the scenes. Now in its 14th year, the Telkom Radio Awards acknowledge excellence across various radio sectors, including campus, community, public broadcasting service (PBS), and commercial radio categories.
At just 26 years old, Makhwanya’s journey in radio has been a remarkable one. She began her career at Choice FM and Energy FM, where she was mentored by the legendary Shonisani “AshifaShabba” Muleya. Her rise to fame came in 2023, when she joined Capricorn FM as a co-host for the station’s popular drive-time show, after winning their coveted presenter search.
Makhwanya’s success continued to soar when she was recruited by METRO FM just six months into her tenure at Capricorn FM, a testament to her undeniable talent and potential. She now hosts the weekend show Radioactive and has stepped in to present several flagship programs on METRO FM.
Upon receiving the Bright Star Inductees award, Makhwanya shared her heartfelt gratitude in a touching message:

Makhwanya was nominated alongside other talented individuals, including Yonaka Theledi, Jodell Tantu, Thato Moloto, Jan Willem Lotz, and Chloe Van Rooyen, making her win a well-deserved recognition of her hard work and dedication to her craft.
Her victory at the Telkom Radio Awards marks another milestone in her promising career, and it is clear that Makhwanya’s influence in the South African radio landscape is only just beginning.
