KLERKSDORP – Namakgale’s young karate rising stars have brought pride to their community after winning big at the 13th Annual Shinkyokushinkai Matlosana Cup held in Matlosana, Klerksdorp in the North West from 5 to 6 April.

Two standout athletes, Austin “Cobra” Moagi and Amani Floris Dihangwane, clinched top positions in both the junior and senior divisions, winning the under-50 kg and under-55 kg categories respectively.

The talented duo trains under the watchful eye of Sensei Sydeck Monyela, who conducts sessions from Monday to Thursday at Namakgale Townhall between 16h00 and 18h00.

Austin Moagi, who took the junior title, expressed how karate has shaped him into a disciplined and respectful young man. “To the youth of Phalaborwa, I encourage you to join us. It’s a way to stay fit and avoid negative influences like drugs and crime,” he said.

Amani Dihangwane, who emerged victorious in the 55 kg category, shared similar sentiments. “Karate taught me how to push my stamina and remain calm even under pressure. It’s helped me resist provocation and stay focused,” he said, urging local youth to believe in themselves.
