NAMAKGALE- Rhulani Dawa (31), residing in Namakgale has been left with physical and emotional scars after a failed C-section operation.
A mother who gave birth through the procedure at Maphutha Malatji Hospital, Namakgale, under the Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality, is pleading for help.
Dawa alleged that she visited the hospital on December 20, 2021 due to pregnancy and blood pressure that was high. After a thorough check-up, she was admitted. What happened next, left the mother of four scarred for life.
“I was then admitted to the hospital. The next day the Doctor decided to perform a C-section because my blood pressure was not manageable. A few days after being discharged I started having abdominal pains”, Dawa explained.
She further said that on December 31, she went back to the facility, whereby she was checked and the doctor on duty injected her in her stomach and kept telling her that there was nothing wrong. “To my dismay, I was admitted again”, Dawa continued.
The patient alleged that she was in unbearable pain the whole time she was there, vomiting non-stop and passing stool. She further alleged that while all this was happening, nurses went about their business unbothered because doctors were off duty until the following Monday.
“The doctor came on Monday and assessed me. That is when he cut the operated area on my stomach with a razor. From the shock on his face, I immediately knew something was amiss. He told me that my intestine was green and septic. He immediately ordered the staff to arrange a bed for me in ICU. At this point I was unable to walk”, Dawa detailed.
According to Dawa, her condition worsened and she was transferred to Letaba hospital where more operations were done. Luckily, she made it out alive, although the ordeal has left her physically challenged. As a result, the mother never breastfed her six months old baby. She further explained that she can’t walk, struggles to bath herself, and worst of all, her kidneys are suspected to be failing.
The department of health has not released a statement pertaining to the allegations after several attempts were made to contact them.
Dawa pleads for donations to assist in paying medical bills with several doctors, and as a result of her unfortunate situation, she is unable to work.
