BOTLOKWA – Motorists traveling along the N1 near Botlokwa have been advised that the road is temporarily closed to allow for the clean-up of a hazardous flammable liquid spill following a truck crash that occurred on Thursday morning.
The incident took place at approximately 08:10, when a truck transporting flammable materials overturned before reaching Matoks, causing a major traffic backlog in the area.
Authorities confirmed that the road closure is necessary to safely remove the spilled substance and prevent further danger to road users. The road will remain closed until further notice, with emergency and clean-up teams working to restore the area.
The Limpopo Department of Economic Development has warned community members to stay clear of the crash site and allow emergency services—including the Fire Department, Municipality, SAPS, and Traffic Control—to carry out their duties without interference.
Motorists coming from Louis Trichardt are advised to use the old road via the Blue Bull Garage at Matoks as an alternative route.
