GIYANI – A motorist traveling from Thohoyandou to Tzaneen became the latest victim of a hijacking and mugging incident at Ndhambi village on the night of February 18, 2025.

The attack occurred on the “Matendeni” alternative road, which has been frequented by motorists due to the collapse of the bridge on the R529 at Ndhambi village.

Reports indicate that criminals have been specifically targeting unsuspecting motorists on this route. The victim, who wishes to remain anonymous, was rescued by a community member passing by. The Good Samaritan fired gunshots to scare off the hijackers, but despite the rescue, the criminals managed to escape with the victim’s car keys and an iPhone.

The incident has left the victim shaken, and concerns over the safety of the route have intensified. Motorists are now being advised to avoid the “Matendeni” road and seek alternative routes through the village.

Authorities and community leaders are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help prevent further incidents.
