Mother of four arrested for neglecting her children in Bolobedu

MATIPANE-Four children were removed from their RDP home at Ga-Matipane in Bolobedu on Monday, May 29 by Mokwakwaila SAPS Child Protection Unit.

According to Mokwakwaila SAPS Communications officer Sgt Tinyiko Manganyi the four siblings’ 38 years old mother was arrested for neglect

This comes after a neighbour made an anonymous tip-off to the police reporting child neglect.

Following up on the tip-off, social workers, police and the Department of Correctional Services visited the family where it was discovered that the children were living in abject poverty and were left under the care of their 82 years old grandmother. The mother was subsequently arrested.

“All the children were taken to a place of safety and their mother was arrested for neglecting her children,” explained Sgt Manganyi

Mokwakwaila police station Social Crime Prevention Co-ordinator Sergeant Tumelo Masedi, Constable Matome Mokone, CPF members comprising of Matome Mashatola Et al, formed part of the delegation that visited the family accompanied by Correctional Services Officer Masetla, his team, parolees and YCP Executive member Thabo Mokgobi

Police said a case of child neglect had been lodged and the mother would be charged and appear in court.
