GA-WALLY- More than 60 learners from Ooghoek primary school at Ga-Wally Village in Bolobedu, Greater Letaba, were reportedly rushed to a clinic earlier this morning after consuming what is suspected to be food poisoning.
It is reported that there was mass hysteria shortly after lunch break when the learners returned to classrooms. It is said that they started itching uncontrollably and sobbing. It is alleged that the reaction was caused by the feeding scheme food served at the school.
According to a parent, messages started circulating on a parents’ WhatsApp group which sent panic to the entire community.
“We were alerted of the incident on a parent’s group and I immediately rushed to the school. Upon arrival, I noticed that there were about four ambulances deployed. I immediately sought for my kids and I fortunately found them in a healthy state they”, he said.
Moreover, concerns have been raised by community members who claim that the school management handles and makes decisions on the kind of food the school serves and most often, the food is not satisfactory.
The learners were admitted to Van Velden and Letaba Hospital for further care and assessment.
The publication immediately alerted the Limpopo department of education who promised to investigate the matter. The school SGB could not be reached for comment.
